5th Grade Math Teacher
I graduated with honors from Rogers High School in Rogers, Arkansas in May of 1992. After much life experience, I went back to school and in December of 2010, I graduated magna cum laude with an Associate of Arts degree from Northwest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville, Arkansas. I then went on to Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, where I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Education in May of 2013.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Education degree. While I majored in Elementary Education, I also hold certification in Early Childhood Education.
I am Great Expectations certified. In the summer of 2017 I attended a great workshop at the Mid-America Industrial Park where I had the opportunity to tour some of the factories, build a drone, and learn more about STEM learning and BMX. In the summer of 2019, I attended the Northeastern Oklahoma Math Conference in Jenks. In the summer of 2020, I attended an online math workshop, targeted at grades 3-5, provided by the Oklahoma State Department of Education, in partnership with Math Solutions.
This will be my third year teaching 5th grade. I am excited about what this year holds and know that we have a great group of kids! I look forward to sparking your child’s interest in math or fanning the flame that already exists. I am also the coach of the fifth grade academic team.
Prior to fifth grade, I taught 3rd grade for three years here, at Locust Grove Upper Elementary. I began my teaching career at Kenwood (K-8) School, where I taught Kindergarten for two years. Before completing my degree, I worked as an elementary school secretary in Rogers, Arkansas for five years. Before entering the education field, I created training modules for new accounting software at the Walmart Accounting Home Office.
I have been married to my wonderful husband, Forrest, for nine years. I have two adult children, three adult step-children, and five grandchildren. We have proudly rescued two small but fiesty dogs – Juan Connery (JuanCon for short) and Boscoe.
My husband and I love to attend plays and musicals. (I may have been president of the drama club in high school!) We enjoy eating out, seeing movies, and traveling. I am also a fan of baseball and like to take in games when I can.
